An exploration in the colours of the Great Rift Valley followed by animal sketching at the height of the migration in the Masai Mara. Wonderful. This year I have added two nights in Samburu National Park, known to many as ‘real Kenya’: wild landscape and plenty of game. We continue via the Aberdaires to Lake Nakuru to see how it shimmers with pink flamingos. Then, in the plains of the Masai Mara, herds of wildebeest and huge numbers of zebra gather to cross the Mara Rivers, to the delight of lions and crocodiles.  

This is a colour and adrenaline rush safari with wonderfully luxurious evenings and nights. Both safari camps are small, personal, stylish and serve exquisite food. Cool, dry and blue skies, Kenya is a stunning country at any time of year, rich in culture, landscape, mountains, lakes and wildlife, but August is superb.
